The insecurity has been blamed for the cancellation of the re-run elections scheduled for the weekend.
Ironically, the same polls were postponed in March owing to insecurity and other logistical challenges.
The Rivers Pathfinders, non-governmental organization, has described the state as “a theatre of war.”
He criticized the reported move by the government to pardon some convicts leading up to the elections.
“Why Wike should consciously release persons who have been detained for murder because they are members of his GDI and PDP few days to the reschedule re-run election if not for the fact that he will use them to cause more mayhem in the state,” said Rivers Pathfinders spokesperson, Abiye Tamuno Sokari-George.
Sokari-George thus welcomed the postponement of the polls.
He said through the postponement, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had been sensitive to the cry of the citizens.
