Reports: 200 insurgents surrender to troops

ABUJA, (CAJ News) – MORE than 200 members of the Boko Haram sect have reportedly surrendered to the Nigerian troops in Banki Town, Borno State.

An unspecified number of the insurgents that refused to surrender have reportedly been killed during the military offensive, sources said.

The capture and killings of insurgents follow the capture of the town on Thursday.

Nigerian troops have yesterday captured the economic important and strategic town of Banki in Borno State which is equally noted for fishing.

Major economic and trading activities between Nigeria, Cameroon and Central African countries takes place in Banki town.

Banki is one of a number of areas that have borne the brunt of the Boko Haram insurgency over the years.
