MAIDUGURI, (CAJ News) – A female refugee has been killed by a stray bullet while a police officer died in combat during anti-terror operations by the Nigerian Army.
The casualties were suffered after the army’s mobile strike teams of Operation Lafiya Dole (Peace by Force) repelled a terror attack on a military outpost in Bama in the northeastern Borno State.
“Unfortunately, a police personnel was killed in action while a female internally displaced person (IDP) was hit by a stray bullet,” said
Lieutenant Colonel Kingsley Samuel, Director of Army Public Rations.
Brigadier General Garba Audu, the regiment commander, has visited the terror hotspots and proceeded to attend the burial of the deceased refugee.
He commiserated with the community on her demise.
Meanwhile, troops laid ambush for suspected Boko Haram terrorists also in Bama.
A terror suspect was killed while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Three bicycles, five jerricans and two bags of maize were recovered from the suspects.
The Nigerian Army is involved in tense battle against the Boko Haram Islamic radicals.
Troops from neighbouring countries are also on alert as the conflict rages across borders.
