Public must respect road laws during festivities


ABUJA, (CAJ News) – THE Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi, has urged the public to abide by traffic laws and rules during Sallah celebrations.”As Muslim Ummah observe the feast, let everyone celebrate with the spirit of obedience to God and recognise the sanctity of human lives by obeying all traffic rules and regulations,” he said.

He urged the public to avoid acts capable of undermining safety of other road users. “People should, therefore, avoid overloading, speed  violation, dangerous driving, phoning and texting while driving because it is only the living that can celebrate,” Oyeyemi said.

He called on Nigerians to assist the FRSC and other security agencies deployed to manage the traffic, by conducting themselves in safe and orderly manner.The official has assured the public, especially the Muslim faithful, of safe Sallah celebrationsHe said adequate logistics provisions had been made to ensure obstruction and crash-free celebrations which began Thursday.

Oyeyemi felicitated with the Muslim Ummah on this year’s Eid-Kabir celebration and enjoined them to be safety conscious throughout the period of the festivity.The Corps Marshal stressed the significance of the Sallah celebration and noted that it was centered around devotion and obedience to the will of God, which Prophet Ibrahim exemplified by his willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail.Oyeyemi said there were great lessons for mankind to learn from that act of obedience, even in the present life.

“Eid-El Kabir celebration teaches us how to show obedience to God in all that we do as human beings,” he said.
