ABUJA, (CAJ News) – POLICE have arrested more than 20 people for inciting violence and social disorder around the country in recent days.Of these, eleven have been arrested in the Delta State while six have been arrested in Imo.
Four people have been arrested in Anambra and another one in Abia.The arrests have coincided with the Inspector-General of Police (IGP),Solomon Arase, ordering an immediate clampdown on people or groups inciting violence and social disorder across the country.Olabisi Kolawole, Acting Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed the directive from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
She said the directive became imperative owing to recent activities of members of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign States of Biafran (MASSOB) and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in some partsof the country.
“This (Arase’s) operational order empowers the police to arrest anybodyfomenting any act of violence or disorder, or any act inimical to thesecurity of the nation” Kolawole said.
Kolawole said the IGP warned that all culprits so arrested for incitingviolence, irrespective of their class or status in the society would becharged in court accordingly.
