Nigeria probes unscrupulous oil dealers

ABUJA, (CAJ News) – THE Nigerian anti-corruption commission is probing alleged illegal activities of more than 20 suspected oil thieves handed over by the Navy.The suspects and their operating vessels were recently arrested at different locations along the country’s waterways.
In all, 24 suspects and three vessels laden with products suspected to be stolen oil, were handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Ishaq Salihu, the Zonal Head of Operations, based in Port Harcourt in the southern Rivers State, received the suspects on behalf of the EFCC.He pledged the commission would investigate the involvement of the suspects in the alleged crime and prosecute those found wanting.The West African country, a leading producer of crude oil, is faced with rampant oil theft, particularly in the Niger Delta south of the country.Earlier on Friday, the Navy arrested more than 20 suspects for alleged oil bunkering.
