ABUJA, (CAJ News) – THE general public is expected to throng Abuja on Wednesday for the first public lecture of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), to be delivered by President of the Commonwealth of  Learning (COL), Prof. Asha Kanwar.

The momentous occasion set for the National Universities Commission Auditorium will be themed, “Can ODL (Open Distance Learning) reach the unreached? Lessons from the Commonwealth.”

Ibrahim Sheme, spokesperson of the NOUN, said the event dubbed “NOUN Distinguished Lecture Series” was to draw attendance from the public, especially the academia.

COL is an intergovernmental organisation created by Commonwealth Heads of Government to promote the development and sharing of open learning and distance education knowledge, resources and technologies.

Based in Canada, COL is the world’s only intergovernmental organisation  solely concerned with the promotion and development of distance education and open learning.

It helps developing nations improve access to quality education and training.

Kanwar became the head of the institution in 2012.

Before joining COL, she was a consultant in open and distance learning at UNESCO’s Regional Office for Education in Africa (BREDA) in Dakar,  Senegal. She has over 30 years of experience in teaching, research and  administration.
