ABUJA, (CAJ News) – THE All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied alleged plans to cause the arrest of leaders of the rival People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in Nigeria’s oil capital, Rivers State ahead of the forthcoming rerun elections.
The polls are scheduled for later this month.
“The APC is a political party and therefore has nothing to do with security matters. That is the duty of security agencies. No one or
political party should connect the APC to such matters under any circumstances,” said APC Rivers spokesman, Chris Finebone.
The opposition party in the state recalled that the PDP had made such “spurious claims” in the past especially before the last rerun elections on March 19 “but no such things happened.”
“We suspect that this is a red herring by the PDP to conceal or divert attention from some insidious and mischievous plans by the PDP and the Rivers State Government to undermine the forthcoming rerun elections,” Finebone declared.
He thus called on people in the Rivers to be alert to the alleged tricks of the PDP and vote against it on July 30.
“Security agencies, especially the Nigeria Police must not to allow themselves to be blackmailed by the antics of Gov. Wike and his party.”
