Plateau legislator condemns deadly weekend clashes

ABUJA, (CAJ News) – THE Member representing Barkin-Ladi and Riyom of Plateau State Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives,Istifanus Dauda Gyang, has expressed shock at the killing of 13 people following violent attacks on some villages of Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area.

Seven villages suffered communal violence on Sunday.The legislator said the renewed attacks were least expected at a time when concerted peace efforts and dialogue meetings were ongoing between Beromand Fulani stakeholders.Gyang, while condemning the attacks, also appealed to the Berom and Fulanistakeholders not to allow the unfortunate incidents defeat the ongoingpeace efforts.

“To do so will be of victory to those who do not want peace and have madeblood letting their vocation and daily delight,” Gyang said.

He added that despite this set back, he remains committed to ensuring thatBarkin-Ladi and Riyom Federal Constituency was rebranded from an axis ofviolence and bloodshed to one of peace and prosperity.The lawmaker also reiterated his call on the Special Task Force (STF) tolive up to its upgraded status of providing a safe haven for allcommunities in his constituency and the state at large.
