Malta’ trip begins busy schedule for Buhari

ABUJA, (CAJ News) – NIGERIA President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to leave Abujalater Thursday ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting inMalta on Friday.Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity,confirmed the travel plans.

Adesina said Buhari and other Heads of State and Government woulddeliberate on fresh Commonwealth initiatives on development and climatechange with a view to adding greater value to ongoing global efforts inthese areas.At the conclusion of the Summit on Sunday, Buhari will leave Malta forParis where he will present Nigeria’s statement at the United Nations Climate Change Conference scheduled to open in the French capital on Monday.

The President will join over 100 other world leaders at the Leaders Eventon the opening day of the conference which will be hosted by PresidentFrancois Hollande of France and the Secretary-General of the UnitedNations, Ban Ki Moon.Adesina also confirmed that Buhari will participate in a summit of theHeads of State and Government of the Lake Chad Basin Commission and BeninRepublic which has been scheduled to take place on December 2 in Paris onthe sidelines of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change.

Deliberations at the Paris meeting of the Lake Chad Basin Commission andBenin Republic will focus mainly on the war against Boko Haram and othersecurity issues of common interest to participating countries.Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Environment,Amina Mohammed, and the National Security Adviser, Maj.-Gen. BabaganaMonguno, are expected to accompany Buhari for the trip.
