ABUJA, (CAJ News) – SOME Delta State elders have welcomed a training programme the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Ovwigho Igbuya, has introduced for legislators in the region.
Under the aegis of The Forum for Good Governance, they described him as an astute lawmaker and the most effective government official in that post in the history of the state.
They also praised Igbuya for protecting the rights of all Members on the House floor, advancing the plans of the people through the legislative process and acting with integrity.
Spokesperson of the TFFGG, Ndudi Nkenchor, after a meeting in Asaba, applauded the lawmaker from Sapele for exposing the lawmakers and their support staff to training programmes both locally and internationally.
“The training expected at equipping the lawmakers in the fundamentals and processes of lawmaking for effective performance is a good way of developing the legislative institution in the state,” said Nkenchor.
Calling the Presiding Officer of the House a voice for reform, the elders commended him for making the legislative process more open and transparent.
“The priorities of the people are reflected in the priorities of lawmakers,” said Nkenchor.
He said the Speaker was enforcing and interpreting the rules of the House, deciding matters of order, delivering rulings, and maintaining order and decorum.
“He is also focused on removing government barriers to private-sector job creation and economic growth, cutting government spending, reforming the House, and rebuilding the bonds of trust between the people and their representatives.”
