ABUJA, (CAJ News) – THE Member Representing Duguri and Gwana Constituency of Bauchi State at the National House of Assembly, Ibrahim Hassan, has decried the prevalence of cattle rustling in the area.
He appealed to stakeholders to work together to prevent the situationdegenerating into a crisis.“We need to put in place sound measures that will ensure the current situation does not snowball into another major security crisis,” the legislator said on Wednesday.
He pointed out the state was among the hardest hit by the problem.
“The situation has left many of our herdsmen without cattle and anincreasing level of migration of local inhabitants and businesses. Our community is one of many bedeviled by kidnappings, robberies and cattlerustling, which has lasted for far too long,” said Hassan.
He has called for closer cooperation between a proposed taskforce and security agencies to curb cattle rustling, armed robberies and like crimes.Yesterday (Tuesday), I moved a motion in the House seeking to address the appalling security situation in Duguri/Gwana Constituency,” he said.
In the last few years, crimes related to cattle rustling have increasedacross many states in the country.Security forces have been blamed for their alleged inability to prosecutecriminals as some of them go free without serious punishment to deterthem.
