ABUJA, (CAJ News) – THE Embassy of Ecuador in Nigeria has celebrated its country’s National Day in Nigeria with a pledge to strengthen ties between the South American country and Africa.
Ambassador Leopoldo Rovayo described Africa as a huge continent which is part of his nation’s roots.
He pointed out Ecuador had 1 million afro descendant people, which was significant in a country with a population of 16 million.
However, Rovayo noted his country and Nigeria had challenges to improve the quality of their democracies.
He said enhancing peace, inclusive development, respecting human rights and giving their population the opportunity to make a living with dignity must be priorities for the two countries.
Rovayo added that this year was probably one of the most convulsive periods of contemporary human history.
He mentioned violence and bombings, in a reference to the recurrent terror crisis in Nigeria and across the world.
The Embassy of Ecuador in Nigeria began its work in Abuja in December 2015 when Rovayo presented his letters of Credence to his President Muhammadu Buhari.
Ecuador National Day is celebrated yearly on August 10 .
