Calls for Sheriff’s arrest mount PDP divisions

ABUJA, (CAJ News) – THE call by the Ahmed Makarfi-led People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the arrest and prosecution of factional chairman of the party, Modu Sheriff, is the latest twist in the upheavals afflicting the opposition party.

The party accuses Sheriff of disobeying a court ruling, by conducting separate Edo State governorship primaries.

Dayo Adeyeye, speaking on behalf of the party, said Sheriff’s decision after a court judgment on Monday, was “utter disobedience and disrespect for court judgment and should not be treated with levity.”

“We are shocked at the attitude of the former National Chairman of our great party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, who has become an authority in the country with flagrant disobedience of the Nigerian Constitution, the Electoral Act and the PDP Constitution without being arrested or detained by security agencies.”

The party asked, “Is he above the law? If we may ask?”

The party said Justice Abdullah Liman’s judgment on Monday was superior to all other court rulings, ex-parte orders or interlocutory injunctions procured by Sheriff.

Tensions have beset the PDP after it lost power to the All Progressives Congress last year.
