Buhari salutes Shinkafi for restoration of democracy

LAGOS, (CAJ News) – PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has lauded the late former  presidential aspirant, Alhaji Umaru Shinkafi, for the development of security structures and restoration of democracy in the country.

He died of an undisclosed illness in London, United Kingdom late Wednesday.

Buhari described the departed politician, administrator and technocrat, as an expert whose contributions to the development of the security architecture of Nigeria remains indelible, adding that others carried on where he left off.

He recalled that the former Federal Commissioner of Internal Affairs and head of the National Security Organisation (NSO), played frontline roles in the activities leading to the eventual return and enthronement of democracy in the country in 1999.

He called on family members, friends and associates of the departed community leader who held the Marafan Sokoto traditional title to take solace in the fact that Shinkafi played the parts assigned to him diligently, conscientiously and patriotically.

Buhari enjoined them to emulate the good virtues that he left behind by the Zamfara State-born former intelligence chief, and ex-Federal Commissioner of Internal Affairs whose bid for the presidency was thwarted in the early 1990s during the Ibrahim Babangida administration
