ABUJA, (CAJ News) -THE Benue Elite Development Network (BENNETWORK) has  denounced the killing of Catholic leader, Rev. Fr. John Adeyi.

He was the Vicar-General, Oturkpo Diocese and Parish Priest of St. Bernard Parish, Ugwu-Okpoga until his murder following abduction.

Some armed men had been kidnapped for over two months.

Adeyi was abducted along the busy Otukpo-Enugu Road after mediating in a crisis between parishioners and the parish priest of Odoba at the behest of the Catholic Bishop of Otukpo, Bishop Michael Apochi.

His decomposing body has been found in Benue.

“The news of Rev. Adeyi’s abduction and subsequent murder came to us a surprise,” said Omaga Daniel, BENNETWORK Public Relations Officer.

“It is quite unfortunate that we now live in a world where God’s anointed ones have become the targets of heinous crimes.”

Daniel has called on the Inspector General of Police, other security agencies and the Benue State government to carry out a detailed investigation into the trend of kidnapping, which has been particularly targeted at priests of Idoma extraction.

It was reported another Otukpa born Priest, Rev. Fr. Julius Gospel Inalegwu, a Catholic Priest with Kano Catholic Diocese, who was reported to have been abducted this past weekend in Kano State.

“It is worthy to note that this action is capable of jeopardizing the peaceful coexistence of the state and as such, we demand that the perpetrators be brought to justice so as to nip this ugly development in the mud and to make the society a safer place.”
