LAGOS, (CAJ News) – THE Ataba Kingdom in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State has pledged support to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the pending legislative re-run elections.
Dates have not been set for the elections after initial polls set for the end of July were postponed but clan leaders have endorsed APC candidate for Rivers South East Senatorial District, Magnus Abe, after he attended the burial ceremony of the late elder, Caleb Simon Benjamin Ogbologugo this past weekend.
Clan head of Ataba kingdom, Dr Benson Hebron Mgbo-Awaji Egwenre-Uruk (XVII) commended Abe and the APC for attending the burial of their colleague.
He said that Andoni people will “do everything within their powers” to elect him to the Senate.
However, the clan leader appealed to Abe to persuade the Niger Delta Development Commission (NNDC) to finalise some uncompleted projects in the area.
He commended Abe for his role in the clean-up of Ogoniland and appealed to him to extend it to Andoni and other communities of the Niger Delta.
“We are people who look ahead and know the direction where we should go that will be okay for us. Like I told you (Abe) before we will do all in our power to ensure that all the candidates of APC win,” he said.
Polls in some areas in Rivers State were initially scheduled for March but postponed to end of last month owing to violence, only to be deferred to dates yet to be disclosed, for similar reasons.
