Aspirant Obaseki pledges upliftment of Edo women

ABUJA, (CAJ News) – WOMEN will play a more prominent role in the administration of the Edo State if governorship candidate of the All  Progressives Congress poll, Godwin Obaseki, wins.

This is the assurance from the aspirant ahead of the elections scheduled for September 10.

“The time when our women were relegated to the back seat in governance is over,” said Obaseki.

He spoke as women leaders of the party paid him a courtesy visit in his campaign office in Benin late Tuesday.

“Edo State – and, indeed, the entire country – is blessed with many great women of strong character and intelligence with a track record of  excellence in both private enterprise and public service.”

He said his government would support and encourage the women to bring all  their knowledge and experience into governance for the betterment of the people.

Obaseki said women had made a mark in different facets of public life.

“We will empower them as an integral part of our government to drive our  prosperity agenda not only in the area of education and health but across all sectors, including the agri-business revolution that we are engendering.”

If elected, Obaseki’s administration will launch development projects under the leadership of women and improve access to low interest rate financing for Women-in-Business.

This included developing credit enhancement support schemes to improve credit ratings for women empowerment programmes.

The APC Woman Leader in the Federal Capital Territory, Hailmary Aipoh, speaking on behalf of First Lady, Aisha Buhari, said her delegation was in Benin in solidarity with Obaseki.

The women donated educational material to children housed in refugee camps in the state.
