US Secretary Kerry’s Nigeria itinerary confirmed

ABUJA, (CAJ News) – UNITED States Secretary of State, John Kerry, will next week travel to Nigeria to discuss regional security issues, counter-terrorism cooperation and bilateral issues.

The US Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria confirmed the visit to Abuja and Sokoto as part of a tour of three countries beginning Kenya on Monday  ending in Saudi Arabia on Thursday.

Kerry will be in Nigeria on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In the capital Abuja, he will meet President Muhammadu Buhari to discuss counter-terrorism efforts, the Nigerian economy, the fight against  corruption, and human rights issues.

The US Secretary will also meet a group of adolescent girls working to  change community perceptions that devalue the role of girls in society.

In Sokoto, he will deliver a speech on the importance of resilient communities and religious tolerance in countering violent extremism.

He will also meet with northern governors and religious leaders.
